We would like to provide public notice of positive COVID-19 case #2 in our district. The student began experiencing symptoms in the early morning hours of October 6th and went in to get tested where medical confirmation of the positive case was received. The secondary campus was notified and contact tracing was immediately initiated. All health and safety measures (including social distancing and/or facial coverings) were in place and followed, so there is no reason to believe any other students or staff were considered to be in “close contact” with the positive case. Close contact is defined as being exposed to infectious secretions (i.e. being coughed on) or being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes. The student and family will quarantine for the required time period. We will continue to thoroughly disinfect all areas of each campus and ensure all safety measures are followed to keep our school community safe.

- Tuesday, October 6th at 9:59 AM: Initial Notification from the student’s mother to the Superintendent.
- Immediate Actions Taken After Notification
- 10:02 AM: The Superintendent immediately notified the high school campus, the Athletic Director, and the District Nurse.
- 10:05 AM: The High School Principal and the Athletic Director both began contact tracing. It was determined that all health and safety protocols were followed and no other individuals came into “close contact” with the positive case.
- Information Dissemination on October 6, 2020
- The superintendent notified the campus and athletic program.
- The principal notified teachers of the positive case and it was determined that social distancing and/or facial coverings were enforced at all times.
- The football coaching staff determined that the athlete did not come into “close contact” with other athletes.
- The district nurse initiated the process of notifying the health department.
- The superintendent notified the County Judge of the positive case.
All areas of each district facility are disinfected each day. In addition, classrooms are disinfected each time students transition from class to class. We will continue to ask students age 10 and older to wear facial coverings. While we have many health and safety measures in place, we are not exempt from the COVID-19 pandemic. Together we can get through these trying times and keep our school community safe.
