Floydada is located atop the Llano Estacado on U.S. Highway 70, U.S. Highway 62, and Texas Highway 207. The town is the government seat for Floyd County. Floydada's location affords its residents with the advantages of a small town quality of life with the accessibility of urban life in nearby Lubbock.
Floydada is the agribusiness center of Floyd County. Commodities produced include cotton, corn, grain sorghum, wheat, soybeans, sunflowers, pumpkins, and other vegetables. The town is headquarters for a large rural electric cooperative, several retail businesses, and churches of several denominations.
Recreational opportunities abound throughout the year. The community actively participates in the school district's activities that range from seasonal boys' and girls' athletic events to fine arts performances and vocational competitions. An annual pumpkin festival in mid-October is a community-wide event that draws visitors from throughout the South Plains region to participate in its unique contests and fairs. The Old Settler's Celebration in late May commemorates the county's founding fathers with a parade, arts & crafts, and a street dance. The Floydada Country Club, nestled in scenic Blanco Canyon, has one of the most challenging golf courses in West Texas, picnic grounds, and a private swimming pool.
Floydada provides its residents with a quiet pace and pleasant surroundings. The small town atmosphere, low cost of living, and friendly people make Floydada a highly desirable community in which to raise a family.
Currently, Floydada ISD employs approximately 80 professional staff members, approximately 20 paraprofessional staff members, and 31 auxiliary staff members. FISD has a student/teacher ratio of 15 to 1.
The District provides a quality education for its 730 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The District is currently classified has a letter grade of a “B” (89) in the Texas accountability system with a Distinction in Postsecondary Readiness.
The district's technology initiatives are a source of pride for the school and community. FISD offers a 1:1 technology environment in grades K-12. Floydada ISD has a reputation of being leaders in teaching with technology.
Floydada ISD is located within short commuting distance of several higher education institutions. Several undergraduate courses as well as graduate professional development courses are made available in Floydada through arrangements with South Plains College and Texas Tech University.
