Good morning. We wanted to share some information regarding our High School Prom scheduled for tomorrow night at the Plainview Country Club. Our plan is to continue with prom as scheduled. We’ve consulted with several people, including the Supervisor at our local Texas Department of Transportation, and we feel it is best to proceed as planned even though we are receiving moisture. The National Weather Service predicts 1 to 3 inches of snow, but the weather has been so warm lately that the moisture on the ground should not cause major issues. TxDOT told us that they have their service trucks ready just in case and that Highway 70 will be a priority, but they also feel the warm weather we’ve had lately should limit the issues associated with the roadways. The greatest concern with freezing temperatures will be late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. The Plainview Country Club also told us that they will keep their drop off area cleared and safe under their awning as attendees are dropped off. We understand there is some concern about the weather and students possibly driving in snow. Prom cannot be rescheduled due to the busy spring that fills everyone’s schedule in addition to all the district events that fill up the calendar. There are so many other moving parts associated with moving prom locally that we would not have the time to prepare to make it a special event for our juniors and seniors. With that said, we respect a parent’s decision to not send their child to prom. If needed, the district can provide a bus to take students to and from prom. Thank you for your concern, patience, and understanding.
