Floydada Collegiate Spanish
Last week in Spanish class, students explored culture through creativity as they made their own Ojos de Dios (God’s Eyes)!
The Ojo de Dios is a traditional Mexican folk art craft originally created by the Huichol people. It symbolizes protection, blessings, and good wishes. Today, the Ojo de Dios is both a meaningful cultural symbol and a beautiful handmade craft that celebrates Mexican heritage, creativity, and tradition. As students wrapped colorful yarn around wooden sticks, they learned about its cultural meaning, history, and importance in Mexican traditions.
Hands-on learning helps our students connect language with culture — and they did an amazing job!
¡Aprendiendo con arte y cultura!

Floydada Collegiate Spanish Club
Members of the Floydada Collegiate High School Spanish Club proudly attended the Festival Hispano de Cultura y Lengua at Wayland Baptist University on January 12, 2026. The festival celebrated Spanish language and culture through a variety of artistic and academic competitions.
Students had the opportunity to participate in events including Poetry Recitation, Original Poetry Recitation, Prose or Drama, Extemporaneous Speaking, Spanish Essay/Creative Writing/Poetry, Art, and a Talent Show. Approximately eight to ten schools from the region attended the festival.
This marked the first year Floydada Collegiate High School participated in the competition, and four students represented our school. Hiram Lopez competed in Original Poetry Recitation. Nayohmi Garcia and Renae Delgado entered a 2D drawing in the art competition. Noah Fierros submitted a photography entry and proudly earned a 3rd-place ribbon.
We are incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work, courage, and dedication. Their performances truly represented Floydada with excellence.
We are already brainstorming creative ideas for next year! Our goal is to enter the Art competition with a piñata standing over four feet tall, and we hope to take even more students so they can experience this exciting and culturally enriching event.
