Floydada Collegiate P-TECH
On Friday 2/6 we had two guest speakers from University Medical Center in Lubbock give a lesson to our Principles in Healthcare class on medical math and its practical applications. Our students started by learning about the speakers, Kacie Monforte BSN, RN, CCRN and Emily Walsh MSN, RN, CCRN, CHCR. Both speakers pursued nursing and found their way through several settings to settle in the cardiac department. After gaining experience there they found that they also loved educating new nurses in the field and reaching out to students like ours.
In the lesson on medical math our students practiced conversions, discussed how age and weight impacts medication, and did some critical thinking on how incorrect dosages and poor documentation might affect patients. They also had a hands-on activity where they solved a problem about liquid medications and then drew up the correct amount of water into a syringe to represent their answer.
We had a great time using our medical math skills and applying them to real-world situations, and we are looking forward to seeing Kacie and Emily again for our tour of UMC next week on 2/18.

The Floydada Post Office was courteous enough to host our Business pathway students this week for a tour of the facility, along with an informative discussion. Students got to witness firsthand the daily tasks of the postal service and how it benefits both business owners and their customers.

In December, Duncan Title III and Title I, Part C K-5th students attended the Region 17 ESC Book Fiesta. Students enjoyed a variety of interactive read-alouds, participated in fun arts and crafts activities, and had the opportunity to share their own work. Each student left with some favorite books to enjoy at home. To make the day even more special, students also got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Clause.
