Parents and Guardians,
Floydada ISD is committed to ensuring your child receives a quality education under the conditions created by COVID-19. Our teachers are using Google Classroom as a means to communicate and help your student continue to learn. Your child’s teacher will send a link via the email you entered on the Remote Learning Survey. When you click on the link, you will be prompted to join their classroom. You will need a gmail email to access Google Classroom. Students in grades 5-12 have an account through the school. Parents who have children in PreK-4th grade will need to create an account. It is completely free to create an email account with gmail. Just go to www.gmail.com and create your account. We look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education!
We started our meal delivery service to students’ homes today. We are thankful to all the wonderful staff who went above and beyond to make this possible. We are here to serve our kids! We delivered over 450 meals! #FISD #ALLinEveryDay

Student Meal Deliveries will begin tomorrow (3-24-2020). Breakfast and lunch will be delivered together between 8:00 am and 9:15 am. It would help greatly if an adult or older student can meet FISD staff in your yard when the bus arrives. Please be patient as we launch this service. We hope to make it as efficient as possible. Thanks for your support.

FISD School Closure Message from Dr. Trevino (Spanish version)
https://youtu.be/E1aSf7lV8fE
Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, Floydada ISD will extend spring break through March 27, 2020 in an effort to support our nation’s need to slow the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19. Our health officials report that cases are continuing to spread in the state, and the likelihood of confirmed cases in our county seems likely. Extending spring break through next week will allow us to prepare to offer distance learning to our students the weeks of March 30th and April 6th. Additionally, all extracurricular activities, practices and athletic events are suspended while we are closed. All staff will report to work on Monday at 8:30 am.
We do not make this decision lightly. We fully realize it presents significant difficulties to working parents. However, we are hopeful that these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, staff, and the larger community.
We are finalizing logistics on distance learning options and the distribution of food to address children’s nutritional needs while school is out. More information and guidance will be made available on our website in the next couple of days.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. We want to reiterate a request to our school community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness:
• Don’t shake hands
• Wash your hands regularly
• Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded placed and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length)
• If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups
• For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms. Students who have traveled should plan to stay home for two weeks after arriving home.
• If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice .
• Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold.
• Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care
This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information. We will assess conditions throughout the next few days and will provide updates on our website, social media, and calling system.
To reiterate, Spring Break will be extended through next week. On March 30th, we will begin distance learning with all students in our district. Students in grades 1-5 will be issued a laptop to help with the distance learning. Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will be offered online resources as well as packets of instructional resources they can complete at home. Students in grades 6-12 already have a laptop which they will use during this time. Teachers will provide instructional support in a variety of ways and will check in with each student or parent during designated times. Your child’s campus will be in contact with you in the coming days to implement our educational plan in the most effective way. Our goal is to continue to provide a quality education to our students in order to ensure their success in future years.
Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the Floydada ISD community stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gilbert Trevino – Superintendent
Floydada Independent School District

STAAR testing was waived for the 2019-2020 school year. We will continue to push our students academically to ensure growth and success beyond this school year.
