Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 Piñata Project
In celebration of cultural traditions and as a year-end project, Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 students explored the history of Cinco de Mayo, followed by an engaging lesson on the cultural significance of the piñata. After learning about its origins and symbolism, students were challenged to design and create their own small piñatas using materials such as cardboard, toilet paper rolls, paper towel tubes, or papier-mâché.
Each student developed a unique design and decorated their piñata with vibrant streamers and tissue paper to reflect traditional festive colors. Upon completion, students presented their projects in Spanish, explaining the steps they followed to construct their piñatas using relevant vocabulary words. They also provided a brief summary of the cultural background and significance of the piñata in Mexican celebrations.
