On Saturday, January 8th, two Floydada students competed at the ATSSB All-Area auditions in Levelland, TX. We are extremely proud to announce that Ethan Jimenez placed first chair out of six highly competitive contra alto clarinets, competing against schools 1A through 4A. The contest only advances one student from this section. Ethan is the first student in 17 years to make the All-State Band from Floydada, and is only the fifth student in Floydada history to ever make the All-State Band. This is a high honor, and we are thrilled Ethan will have the opportunity to come together with the best players in the state in February in San Antonio, TX to perform a world-class concert at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.
It truly is a great day to be a Whirlwind. Go winds!!!

FCISD COVID-19 GUIDELINES
(as of 1/3/2022)
If a person tests positive for COVID-19:
That person must isolate regardless of vaccination status
• Quarantine for 5 days
• At the end of the 5 day period, if the person is fever-free and has no other symptoms, he/she may return to school
• Continue to wear a mask for 5 days upon return
If you came into close contact with someone with COVID-19:
If the person is vaccinated (within the last 6 months with the Pfizer/Moderna vaccine or within the last 2 months with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) OR has received the booster shot
• Do not have to quarantine
• Wear a mask around others for 10 days
• If the person develops symptoms, stay home and get tested
If the person is unvaccinated, OR completed the primary series of Pfizer/Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and has not received a booster, OR has completed the primary series of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine over 2 months ago and has not received a booster
• Quarantine for 5 days (recommended but not mandated) and continue to wear a mask for 5 days upon return
• If the person does not quarantine, they must wear a mask for 10 days
• If the person develops symptoms at any time, they must stay home and get tested

Good afternoon. I’d like to wish you all a happy new year. I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We are eager to have our students back in our buildings tomorrow. We are excited about the wonderful things that await us during the spring semester.
The community of Floydada has seen a rise in the number of positive COVID cases in recent days. With this in mind, I would like to ask for your help until we can get beyond this pandemic. If your child has symptoms of COVID-19, please keep him or her home. If your child has come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19, please take the necessary precautions to prevent exposing others. While masks aren’t required by our district, we encourage the use of masks at least until we get beyond the rise of positive cases in our community. Our staff will be proactive by increasing our sanitization of classrooms and all areas used by students, making hand sanitizer available to everyone in our buildings, and encouraging social distancing when possible. We will also initiate temperature checks for everyone who enters our buildings. We will post our updated District COVID-19 Guidelines on our social media and website later this afternoon. Together, we can keep our students and staff as safe as possible. Thank you so much for your help.
The 5th graders each drew a Christmas card for the Dean of Education at Texas Tech. He chose 3 cards from the 5th graders in Floydada to print for his Christmas card. Be watching to see who the final 3 cards are. The College of Education is featuring a different card made by a student to count down to Christmas.

V/JV Lady Winds Basketball Holiday Practice Schedule
On Saturday, December 11 four students competed at Levelland High School in the ATSSB All-Region Honor Band auditions. Ethan Jimenez placed first chair in Bass Clarinet and Kimberlee Ramirez placed first chair in Alto Clarinet. Both will advance to Area Honor Band auditions on January 8, with the chance to make it to the prestigious All-State Band in San Antonio, TX. Devin Reyes and Lailah Burks were only spots away from making the band in percussion, the most competitive section at the contest. We are extremely proud of their work. Floydada did extremely well at this highly competitive event. Go Whirlwinds!!!

We are proud of all the students who auditioned. Those who did not make the bands were only few spots away from making the band, and were in the higher rankings overall. Floydada did extremely well competing against the almost 1,000 other students at auditions.

Lady Winds Softball Schedule
The Lady Winds lost in overtime today to Sterling City 43-40 to take 2nd in the Tahoka Tournament. The Whirlwinds defeated Forsan 66-64 to win the championship.
The Whirlwinds defeated Morton today 65-61 and the Lady Winds defeated Tahoka 46-28 in the Tahoka Tournament. Both teams move into the championship game tomorrow (1:30 and 3:00 pm)!
