FCISD will offer curbside meal pick up for remote learners each school day from 7-8 at each campus. Breakfast and lunch will be provided together when you pick meals up. On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, we were notified that a high school football player tested positive for COVID-19. That individual has since quarantined and we are in the process of thoroughly disinfecting all areas of our athletic field house. This document serves as notification to all parents of athletes who may have come into contact with the positive case, whether it meets the definition of “close contact” or not. Close contact is defined as being exposed to infectious secretions (i.e. being coughed on) or being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes. We strongly encourage you to monitor your child for COVID-19 symptoms (see cdc.gov for more information) and keep them home and/or seek medical attention if they exhibit any of those symptoms.
I. Initial Notification of Positive COVID-19 Test Result
a. Wednesday, August 12th at 2:49 PM: Initial Notification from the player’s mother to the Athletic Director (Todd Bandy). The Athletic Director immediately contacted the Superintendent (Dr. Gilbert Trevino) and Head Football Coach (Coach Bruington).
II. Immediate Actions Taken After Notification
a. 3:00 PM: The dates of player attendance at practice were checked and verified by the AD and Head Football Coach
b. 3:30 PM: A meeting with the superintendent was held in which a plan of action was developed.
c. 3:45 PM: The maintenance staff was notified and immediately sent to the athletic field house to thoroughly disinfect all areas.
III. Information Dissemination
a. 3:49 PM: The district nurse was called to initiate the process of notifying the health department.
b. 3:50 PM: A letter was drafted by the superintendent, athletic director, and head football coach in order to communicate the positive test to parents of all football players and to describe the steps being taken to ensure everyone’s health and safety.
c. The information will be shared via the Sports You App to all football players/parents and will be shared on the district’s social media accounts.
d. 3:56 PM: The band director (Franklin Piland) was notified of the student testing positive since that student is also in the band program.
e. 4:03 PM: The band director in consultation with the superintendent decided to also cancel practices the rest of the week.
IV. Shutdown Operations
a. 3:15 PM: Coach Bruington contacted his assistant coaches and asked them to greet any athlete who arrives at the field house and send them home.
b. 3:45 PM: A message was sent via the Sports You App informing all players that practice was cancelled today, Wednesday, August 12th.
c. 3:46 PM: The decision was made to cancel practice activities for the rest of the week.
d. Athletic staff will begin the process of tracking and tracing all students with potential contact with the positive case. Parents of players who had “close contact” will be called and given information regarding COVID-19 symptoms and will be asked to monitor their child for those symptoms.
e. The Band Directors will disseminate information regarding cancellation of practices for the rest of the week.
There has been some confusion, questions, or comments about the district's stance on students wearing masks or face coverings as we begin a new school year. We apologize for the confusion. The district plan states that masks will be worn during passing periods (for students ages 10 or older) and any time students are not able to social distance. Our staff has been directed to allow for social distancing at all times during class so that our kids do not have to wear their mask more than is absolutely necessary. The district plan supersedes all campus plans that may have been sent to parents. It also has all of the health protocols that we are taking to try to keep our students healthy. Our staff is working this week and they have each been screened each morning as they enter the building. We have hand sanitizing stations available and they are encouraged to wear masks if they so choose. Since our county is currently under 20 actives cases, they have that right to choose this week. Once students are in the building, then our staff will have to follow the district plan in regards to wearing face coverings.
Schools are in a difficult situation with this pandemic. There are no right or wrong answers, so our school community (educators and parents) must work together to communicate positively and get our children through this difficult time. The Texas Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath, spoke to Floydada Collegiate ISD and other Collegiate Edu-Nation districts this afternoon about the importance of creating more educational opportunities for rural districts. CEN has partnered with 5 districts to increase college and career opportunities for 2300 rural students.
Varsity Home Football Game Information
1. UIL rules state that schools are limited to a maximum of 50% occupancy of a stadium. For our district, this means that the visitor’s side will be allowed 500 spectators and the home side will be allowed 750 spectators, which includes the band. The UIL has asked schools to minimize the transfer of materials such as money and tickets at stadiums. Therefore, we will presale tickets the week of our home games. Parents of football players, cheerleaders, and band will be allowed to purchase tickets for their immediate family (mom, dad, stepmom, stepdad, siblings) on the Monday and Tuesday before a home game. The remaining tickets will be sold to the general public on Wednesdays and Thursdays on a first come, first served basis until we reach our maximum of 750 tickets.
2. Masks or face coverings (over nose and mouth) will be required in the stadium for all spectators. Exceptions to the wearing of face coverings or face shields are as follows:
a. Any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing of a face covering
b. While a person is consuming food or drink
c. When a congregating group of persons in the same household maintains at least 6 feet of social distancing
3. Hand sanitizing stations will be provided throughout the stadium and at all entrances.
4. Seating, handrails, and other common surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected prior to each game.
5. Restrooms will be cleaned and disinfected several times throughout the evening.
6. All ticket prices will be $4 as decided upon by District 2-2A member schools.
Sub-Varsity Home Football Game Information
1. The same health protocols will be in place for sub-varsity games as are in place for varsity games.
2. Parents of athletes and cheerleaders will be given tickets that will guarantee entry of their immediate family into the stadium. The remaining seats will be offered on a first come-first served basis.
3. There is no entry fee this year for sub-varsity games.
Homecoming Information
The community homecoming activities have been cancelled; however, our district will still hold homecoming on September 4th. We will celebrate our halftime homecoming festivities that will culminate in the crowning of our homecoming queen. Since homecoming is an event that occurs only every 4 years, we welcome students to purchase and wear mums and garters. We will also honor Mr. Charles Tyer by dedicating our new stadium to his memory during pregame.
We are proud to announce that we received notice today that the Texas Education Agency approved our In-District Charter status, thus officially making our district name Floydada Collegiate Independent School District and giving each of our campuses "collegiate" status. Pathways toward an Associate's Degree and more job certifications will be created through our partnership with our operating partner, Collegiate Edu-Nation.

Erin Trevino, sophomore at Floydada High School, was recently named to the 1st Team Academic All-State Team in Softball by the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Army National Guard. Recipients of this honor excel in the following categories: GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT score. Erin excelled as a pitcher and infielder for the Lady Winds during the 2019-2020 season. She had 70 strikeouts and hit .360 in a COVID-19 shortened season. We commend Erin for her commitment and dedication to perform with high standards of excellence on the field as well as in the classroom.

Tyson Carthel is Mrs. Baird’s March Teacher on the Rise
Tyson Carthel was the recipient for the Mrs. Baird’s Teacher on the Rise for March. He was nominated by Ashlyn Green for the award. Mr. Carthel teaches Social Studies and coached the UIL One Act Play at FHS. Mr. Carthel will receive $100 Gift Card from United Supermarkets and lunch for 2 from the Texas Tech Club. Ashlyn will receive a $50 American Express Gift Card. Congratulations to Tyson and Ashlyn!
Floydada ISD is holding its graduation ceremony on May 21st in accordance with the social distancing guidelines articulated by federal, state, and local officials. Attendees must follow the guidelines as communicated in the Floydada ISD Graduation Plan, including maintaining a six-foot distance from those outside of your household and staying home when sick. The District shall monitor and enforce all applicable guidelines.
By attending the Floydada ISD graduation activities, you acknowledge that despite compliance with social distancing and other guidelines, presence in a public place, near other persons, may result in increased exposure to people with infectious diseases, including COVID-19. By your attendance at graduation activities, you further acknowledge that you fully assume all risk of bodily harm, illness, death and medical treatment that may result from contact with persons at Floydada ISD graduation activities.
The CDC recognizes the following individuals are at high-risk for severe adverse COVID-19 reactions and should consult with a physician before attending the graduation ceremonyor should not attend:

-People who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility
-People of all ages with underlying medical conditions, particularly if not well controlled, including:
>People with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
>People who have serious heart conditions
